This course is designed to introduce you to the foundational skills of sewing, whether you’re using a machine or sewing by hand. Yes, you’ll learn what “cut on the bias” means!\u003cbr\u003e- Cut and create a custom pillow! Don’t worry, you will not believe how simple it can be. I will show you other variations that you can practice at home.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWeek three:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e- Learn how to read a pattern, how to lay it out, and how to cut it properly.\u003cbr\u003e- Make a pair of pajama bottoms custom-fit to you! You’ll learn how to make a casing, how to do a topstitch hem, and how to taper legs if needed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDifficulty:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBeginner\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSkills required:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eNone\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eTechniques you'll learn:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e- How to thread and operate a sewing machine.\u003cbr\u003e- Basic hand stitches and their uses.\u003cbr\u003e- Reading and using patterns.\u003cbr\u003e- Understanding fabric types and selection.\u003cbr\u003e- Cutting and measuring fabric accurately.\u003cbr\u003e- Finishing techniques: hemming, seam allowances, and edge finishes.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMaterials required:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e- A sewing machine (if you don't have one, there are a limited amount to rent from the instructor.)\u003cbr\u003e- Basic items such as scissors, pins, etc. If you don't have these, you may purchase a \"beginner's box\" at the time of the class.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWeek one:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e- 1\/4 yard medium to lightweight fabric for a small bag.\u003cbr\u003e- 1\/4 yard coordinating lining fabric (can be a solid color).\u003cbr\u003e- 9” regular zipper.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWeek two:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e- 1 yard fabric for pillow, preferably medium weight.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWeek three:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e- 3 yards of soft cotton woven (not knit) fabric for PJ pants.\u003cbr\u003e- 1 yard of 3\/4” wide no-roll elastic.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003ePlease purchase fabric prior to class.
